As you know, TacCom and I have been married just about 20 years. As a wife with some experience in this area, I feel that I can contribute a few bits of advice to the younger set out there. These are some of the lessons I have learned over the years:
~First and foremost: Keep praying together about everything.
~One way to a man's heart really is through his stomach! (sometimes)
~You may get what you want if you nag and plead and throw a temper tantrum, but you won't get his respect! What's more important? That "thing" you want (which will eventually wear out anyway) or his respect (which will grow over time)?
~You may think his job is more important to him than you, but believe me, when he comes down the driveway, after a long, difficult day at the office, his home life is what makes life joyful! (and who provides him with a beautiful home life? YOU!)
~NEVER, EVER, bash your man. Not in private and definitely not in public!! What do I mean by "bash"? Insults, name-calling, stories about (silly) things he has done....you get the meaning! (I must admit that this is one thing I learned in the first year of marriage. I realized early on that making your man look stupid makes you look even more stupid)
~Talk everything over. Communication is key.
Well, there is so much more, but how much time do you want to spend here at "Just showed up for my own life"?
